What’s Going On Tonight In The National League South?

By Sam Elliott

The only way really is Essex in the National League South tonight.

There’s not one but two big derby games in the county on an exciting night of action.

Chelmsford City wish they could play every single game away from home. So far they have picked up four wins on the road compared to just one at Melbourne - so the good news is they’re the visitors again this evening.

The bad news is they go to Concord Rangers, who are back in form and sit just a point outside the play-off places.

Billericay Town lost the leadership they earned last month on Saturday as they dropped two points at home to Dulwich Hamlet.

They welcome struggling East Thurrock knowing they can’t really afford another slip up in an ever-congested title race.

Steve King’s Welling are the new leaders but they face their toughest examination yet at St Albans City.

There’s nine games in total on Tuesday nightand there’s a south west derby - although it’s hardly local.

Weston-super-Mare couldn’t have asked for a more demanding game as they try and earn their first National League South win of the season.

Torquay United pay them a visit - a side who have hit 23 goals in their last six games.

Truro City’s season appears to be up and running but Bath City are up to third. However their manager Jerry Gill fears the White Tigers’ weekend win over Dartford will put the hosts in a good place.

Hampton manager Gary McCann says his team weren’t good enough at Hungerford on Saturday - now they’ve got to bounce back against an Eastbourne side who are looking to break into the top seven.

Woking also weren’t at the races. A 3-1 home defeat to Bath City saw Alan Dowson’s men slip to fifth - the lowest they have been all season.

Ian Herring brings his Hungerford side to Kingfield hoping to add to their issues and build on a convincing victory over Hampton.

Hemel Hempsteadbadly need a win after a difficult few weeks but Slough Town are proving to be no pushovers.

Chippenham have climbed to eighth and they hope striker Nick McCootie maintains his scoring form with they travel to Oxford City.

Tuesday’s National League South futures:
Billericay Town v East Thurrock
Concord Rangers v Chelmsford
Eastbourne v Hampton
Hemel Hempstead v Slough
Oxford City v Chippenham
St Albans City v Welling United
Truro City v Bath City
Weston-super-Mare v Torquay
Woking v Hungerford
