What Happened In The National League South On Friday?

By Sam Elliott

On a day where the weather won many of the battles, Dartford claimed a huge victory as their pitch held somehow strong.

With all-but three games off in the league either called off or failing to finish, the National League South title race now could be down to two teams.

Dartford’s last minute goal could have potentially killed off the challenge of Hampton & RB - Alfie Pavey left it very late to secure a crucial win.

Alan Dowson’s Beavers are now seen points off the top and their quest wasn’t helped by another win for the leaders.

Havant & Waterlooville won for the 20th time the season as they eased to a 2-0 win over Weston-super-Mare.

The game survived a downpour and the home fans were thrilled it did as they remain two points clear.

Wes Fodgen put Lee Bradbury’s men ahead two minutes after half-time, and it was game over when Jason Prior added a second just past the hour mark. They go to Whitehawk on Monday, but in the battle of the Hawks Steve King’s team will be well rested after today’s game with Poole was postponed.

Bognor Regis’s game with Chelmsford City was called off before kick off, and there was annoyance for their rivals at Cressing Road.

Braintree Town’s game with Oxford City was abandoned in the first half and the sides will have to start from scratch next month.

Concord Rangers v Hungerford was postponed at 10am - but there wasn’t that luxury for fans of Welling United and Bath City with the rain just too relentless for the referee to allow the game to go ahead. It was called off minutes before kick-off at Park View Road.

Fans got value for money at Truro City, as the White Tigers drew 3-3 with Hemel Hempstead.

Truro came from behind three times to clinch what could be a precious point as Tyler Harvey struck in the final minute to break Hemel hearts.

Three games are scheduled for Saturday, Chippenham play Eastbourne, Gloucester City welcome St Albans while Wealdstone v East Thurrock will be subject to a 10am pitch inspection.
