We're Heading For Crunch Time In The North And South!

By Sam Elliott

Mid-March is here and we’re reaching crunch time in the battle at both ends of both tables.

Yeovil Town fans thought there was a chance of getting things wrapped up in the next few weeks but their wobble has left the National League South champagne on ice.

Two unexpected home defeats in four days means it is now only one win in five - but the chasing pack haven’t exactly upped the heat. The Glovers are looking to get back on track at Slough Town after an uncomfortable few fixtures.

Chelmsford City will be kicking themselves after two defeats from three but a home game against Bath City represents a chance to at least fire a warning.

Worthing have lost their way with four defeats in five and face a tough trip to Chippenham, who have just toppled the league leaders and are playing with mid-table freedom.

There’s a huge Kent derby with vital points on offer at both ends - play-off chasing Maidstone United take on Dartford, whose chaotic season has seen them slip into the bottom four.

Hampton & RB are back in form at just the right time, they meet old manager Alan Dowson who is now in charge at Hemel Hempstead while Rod Stringer’s Welling United can take a giant stride towards safety by defeating Weston-super-Mare.

Two sides dreading the drop come together as Eastbourne Borough face Taunton Town with Havant & Waterlooville fans thinking they can still pull off a great escape if they leave doomed Dover Athletic victorious.

There’s no such trouble at the top of National League North for Tamworth.

They’re now 15 points ahead and can get the job done this month if things go their way. They’ll keep their noses out in front if they win at home to Chester.

Scunthrope United host Banbury United knowing anything but a win surely sees their race run.

As always, a top three finish could prove crucial. Chorley have hold of it as things stand, but face a visit from a Scarborough side who can’t afford to fall any further off the play-off pace.

Boston United blitzed Gloucester City last time out, can they keep the goals coming against Farsley Celtic and move back into the top seven? Curzon certainly hope not - they’re at home to in-from Spennymoor Town, whose charge is still alive.

There’s a big one down the bottom as strugglers King’s Lynn Town take on Rushall Olympic, who are now in the bottom four. Just above the dotted line are Darlington, and with five wins from six will fancy another with Peterborough Sports in town.

We could have our first relegation this weekend. If Bishop’s Stortford lose at Alfreton Town and other results go against them, they’ll be down.
