Seagulls Manager McGregor Secures 'Major Signings'

Weston-super-Mare have completed a double coup their manager says are "major signings", writes Tom Scott.

Jamie Lucas has signed on a one-year deal for the upcoming season with the club also announcing talented Jarrad Welch is to stay on for another year.

Lucas is no stranger to the club, having previously played at the Woodspring Stadium in two separate loan spells, impressing fans with 12 goals in his 21 games.

The striker spent last season at Bath City, but speaking to the club’s official website, the Seagulls’ manager Mark McGregor confirmed the Welshman was still in his thoughts.

He said: “He was at Bath City for last season and we kept a very close eye on his progress.

“We have worked hard to obtain Jamie’s signature on a contract as a number of clubs were very interested in signing him.

Everyone at the club will be hoping Lucas can strike a fruitful partnership with Gethyn Hill and push the club to the next level with plenty of goals.

“This is a major signing for us and Jamie will link up with Gethyn to provide a formidable partnership.

“We’ll need more goals next season and Jamie fits the bill brilliantly," McGregor told the club’s official website.

Welch was vital in the push for a mid-table finish last season and McGregor told the club’s official website that he feels the young midfielder has earned his chance to extend his stay with the club.

“Jarrad worked really hard last season and played some quality football to get over the line. He succeeded in that and deserves a chance and I am so pleased he decided to stay with us.” He said.

Having joined at the beginning of last season, Lynch soon became a fan’s favourite with his consistent performances and hardworking attitude – qualities that his manager thinks will see Lynch playing at a higher level in the future.

He told the club’s official website: “He is a young man who could break into the Football League if developed in the correct way.

“I have rewarded his effort and potential for the coming year with a contract although if he continues to develop we could see league clubs knocking on our door for his services.”
