New Leaders As Big Tests Are Passed On Tuesday Night

By Sam Elliott

We have new National League leaders as the games that beat the freeze produced plenty of talking points.

Wrexham turned on the second-half style to put Gateshead to bed and overtake Notts County, whose game at Solihull Moors succumbed to the weather.

Thomas O’Connor, Ollie Palmer and Paul Mullin all hit the net - it means the Dragons have scored 70 goals so far this season as they eventually eased to a sixth win on the spin, ending their Heed hoodoo in the process.

Because of the top two being so relentless Chesterfield knew they simply had to beat Altrincham.

They did but only just, Ash Palmer’s late header broke the visitors’ resistance to keep the Spireites very much in touch.

It was their seventh home league win in a row - the first time they have done that since 1990.

Inih Effiong was the man of the night after hitting a hat-trick as Aldershot Town added to Maidstone United’s woes. It’s eight straight defeats now for the struggling Stones.

Oldham grabbed a much-needed win as they defeated York City 2-0, Timmy Abraham made it safe.

It ended honours even between Bromley and Dagenham as Ben Krauhaus levelled up after Josh Hare put the Daggers ahead.

It’s the end of the FA Cup road for Boreham Wood - they lost 1-0 in extra time at Accrington Stanley after falling just short.

Ebbsfleet United have recovered from losing four in a row to win three on the bounce and they are now three points clear at the top of the National League South.

Shaquile Coulthirst, Greg Cundle and Darren McQueen earned a 3-1 win at Dulwich Hamlet.

Jordan Greenidge bagged another brace - Tonbridge rolled Dover Athletic over 4-0.

Three games survived in the National League North.

Defender Nathaniel Knight-Percival scored a 54th minute winner as Kidderminster Harriers gained play-off ground with a 1-0 win at tricky Curzon Ashton.

Blyth Spartans’ season is really alive - a 1-0 win at home to Southport was secured by Cedric Main.

James Spencer got what turned out to be the winner as Farsley Celtic beat Buxton 2-1.
