Holders Bow Out As Spireites Are Shaken In The FA Trophy

By Sam Elliott

There were some big FA Trophy surprises in store as the delayed third round ties produced plenty of goals and talking points.

After Saturday was mainly iced off, Monday’s draw was full of ifs, buts and maybes.

But there’s clarity now - and Chesterfield’s treble dreams are over.

The National League title chasers, EFL-club hunters in the FA Cup this season, crash out after Southern League Coalville Town left Derbyshire with a 3-1 win.

Holders Bromley are also gone - they threw away a 2-0 lead to lose on penalties at Bath City, pictured. Dan Greenslade won it from the spot.

There were no problems for Notts County, Sam Austin helped them on the way to a 2-1 win over Chorley.

Dagenham were just too good for Uxbridge - Junior Morias score two early on to ease the Daggers into round four with a 5-1 win.

Second-half Joe Sbarra and Ryan Barnett goals were enough for Solihull Moors against AFC Telford United - they face Barnet next after they got the better of brave Plymouth Parkway.

Nathan Ralph made Southend United’s passage safe as they saw off Boreham Wood.

Woking have a rich FA Trophy tradition but they’re out at the first stage - Danny Whitehall was on target as Eastleigh won 2-0.

Jacob Hazel scored twice as Darlington won the all north east tie with Spennymoor 3-1.

Festus Arthur was the FC Halifax Town hero at Guiseley.

Nathan Thomas scored twice as York City thrashed Blyth Spartans as Inih Effiong helped Aldershot Town beat Welling United comfortably.

Jack Barham was back on the scoresheet as Maidstone United won 2-0 against Worthing.

Kane Ferdinand scored twice as Maidenhead United were 3-1 victors at Hemel Hempstead Town.

Elsewhere there was success for Oldham Athletic but they needed penalties against Peterborough Sports.

Stephen Wearne’s two goals inspired Torquay against Chippenham and Kidderminster won on penalties at AFC Fylde.
