Attention Turns To The FA Trophy As Familiar Foes Collide

By Sam Elliott

With not much National League action happening in the last fortnight the FA Trophy brings some welcome Christmas cheer.

Step One sides joined the FA Trophy fun on Saturday and quite a few of them finally get chance to butt heads after weather ravaged the weekend schedule.

There’s lots of great ties to provide a winter warmer as our clubs look to avoid becoming the third round headline.

It’s a familiar foe for some and with a huge Wembley final up for grabs once again, the famous competition is just getting going for the National League sides - with a lot of the big boys boasting home advantage.

Southend United host FA Cup giant killers Boreham Wood, who are once again hoping to fight on three fronts going into the New Year.

Wrexham also have FA Cup and EFL hunting priorities, but they welcome Scunthorpe United looking to maintain their 100 per cent home record.

Woking welcome Eastleigh while Torquay look to follow up their impressive FA Cup run - Chippenham stand in their way.

Bromley, pictured, are the holders and their fans won’t ever forget last year’s final win over Wrexham. They have a tricky start at Bath City.

Notts County suffered an early FA Cup exit and don’t want to go out before they get going again, they take on Chorley while Oldham Athletic face Peterborough Sports.

Chesterfield meet Coalville Town while there’s a Yorkshire derby on offer as Guiseley face FC Halifax Town.

Aldershot Town host dangerous Welling United while Chelmsford City want to claim another higher-level scalp with Wealdstone in town.

There’s two big all National League North ties as Kidderminster Harriers visit AFC Fylde as Spennymoor Town take on Darlington.

Third round winners are to receive £4,500 from the FA's prize pot with the losers earning £1,250.

The draw has already been made for the Fourth Round and thrown out some extra incentive for our sides to progress tonight.
