What Happened On Tuesday Night In The National League?

By Sam Elliott

There are new leaders of the National League for the first time since October on a night when the goals flowed.

Sutton United now head the table after they did the job against Yeovil Town, ending Torquay United’s 133-day stay at the top of the division.

They know how to win late, too. Harry Beautyman, pictured, struck seven minutes from time to secure a 2-1 win and it takes them to the summit for the first time this season.

Hartlepool United are second and won’t be unhappy with their point at Altrincham.

After going down to ten men early on, they went in front through Rhys Oates but on the stroke of half-time Ryan Colclough levelled and it stayed 1-1.

Stockport County found their goal touch as they swept aside Solihull Moors 5-0 in a real show of attacking intent.

John Rooney scored twice in the first half as they went in four goals ahead at the break. The other goals arrived from Harry Cardwell, Tom Walker and Jack Stretton.

Wrexham are putting in a big challenge again and won 2-0 at Barnet.

It was a professional performance with Luke Young and Elliott Durrell hitting the target - they have now lost just once in 11 matches.

Notts County fans fear they may have to settle for the play-offs now after a 2-1 home defeat to FC Halifax, who have won three from four.

Jake Hyde and Tahvon Campbell took the Shaymen to within a point of the play-offs.

Boreham Wood nearly jumped into the top seven but were held to a 0-0 draw with Woking, who will feel they should have taken all three points themselves.

Paul McCallum notched an early double as Dagenham beat Maidenhead United 2-1.

Danny Green, Ross Lafayette and Jacob Mendy scored as Wealdstone won 3-1 at home to King’s Lynn Town.
