What Happened On Tuesday Across The National League?

By Sam Elliott

The night’s big talking point came in the early kick off but the later games gave us plenty to chew on as well.

Kyle Wootton put Notts County ahead against Dagenham but drama wasn’t far behind when Sam Slocombe was red carded - and the hosts didn’t have a goalkeeper on the bench.

Michael Doyle, 39, went between the posts and the midfielder inspired.

First Paul McCallum missed the resulting penalty before Portuguese flyer Ruben Rodrigues hit a wonder goal. The ten men went 3-0 ahead before the break when leading scorer Wootton scored again.

There was to be no clean sheet for hero Doyle as Matt Robinson grabbed a late consolation but it couldn’t dampen the spirits.

Torquay United needed a goal from Billy Waters a minute into time added on to rescue a point at home to managerless Wealdstone.

The table topping Gulls are having a tricky period but still boast an eight point lead.

Hartlepool’s home form is very much keeping them in the title hunt.

They have now won six in a row at Victoria Park and a goal in each half did the damage against Solihull Moors.

Luke Armstrong got Dave Challinor’s team up and running before David Ferguson made it safe after 57 minutes.

Kwame Thomas is in great form and his brace earned Wrexham an excellent 2-1 win against Altrincham, in a game played at FC United of Manchester.

Courtney Duffus was also at the double - Bromley defeated King’s Lynn 2-0.

Eastleigh are really moving in the right direction again and they kept Yeovil looking over their shoulder.

Ryan Hill’s 42nd minute goal was the difference as Ben Strevens team just don’t let in goals at home.

National League South leaders Dartford’s form is dipping - they lost 1-0 at home to Eastbourne Borough.

Chris Whelpdale was again the Sports’ go to man as he struck the winner minutes before half-time.

Oxford City have started 2021 in fine fettle and two-goal Harvey Bradbury inspired a 4-0 romp over Hungerford Town.

Hemel Hempstead finally won at home - they defeated Havant 2-0 with goals from BJ Christie and Reggie Young.

Hampton’s incredible away run is over, they lost 2-1 at improving Ebbsfleet United with Alfie Egan snatching what turned out to be the decisive goal of the game.
