What Happened On Saturday In The National League?

By Sam Elliott

We knew there would be some title twists to come and this weekend’s action proved nothing is settled yet in the National League.

Leaders Sutton United went in knowing the power of three points at home to Stockport County - and they were seconds away from getting them.

But James Jennings popped up in the sixth minute of time added on at Gander Green Lane to give the chasers a bit of hope.

Their championship rivals knew they had to win after the late drama in south west London.

Hartlepool United did just that, a 1-0 success at Woking was sealed by Rhys Oates ten minutes from time.

Torquay United needed to hit the reset button on their season after a torrid 2021 so far.

They secured the result Gary Johnson hopes can get their title quest up and running again, new man Scott Boden netting the winner in a 1-0 victory over King's Lynn Town.

Notts County are still adrift, despite two sensational goals lighting up their match with Yeovil Town.

Jake Reeves’ peach opened the scoring and the 2-0 victory was secured through a Jordan Barnett wonder-goal.

Bromley are now in the play-offs - Joe Kizzi grabbed the points for Neil Smith’s team in the closing stages to make it back-to-back defeat for returning Solihull Moors manager Mark Yates.

Chesterfield stay in touch, Tom Whelan and Adi Yussuf scored to beat Barnet 2-0 at The Hive.

Both Eastleigh and FC Halifax have play-off hopes and the Spitfires soar thanks to Tyrone Barnett’s brilliant goal.

Weymouth are enjoying their National League return and secured their biggest win since winning promotion.

Their 4-0 win over Wealdstone, pictured, was secured by a late Sean Shields double. Josh McQuiod and Brendan Camp also hit the target.

Aldershot and Boreham Wood both have top seven ambitions so a draw probably didn’t suit either side.

It was a 3-3 thriller at the EBB, Josh Rees’ double proved crucial as his great form in front of goal continues.

Dagenham have it all to do if they are to be involved in the promotion race, but Will Wright’s goal took the points home from Altrincham.
