What Happened On Saturday In The National League?

By Sam Elliott

Late drama was the order of the day as three of the day’s four games completely changed in the final few seconds.

The afternoon begun in dramatic style - a last minute winner gave Chesterfield’s survival chances a huge lift.

John Pemberton’s spirited side came from behind twice to defeat Wrexham 3-2 as Curtis Weston’s winner, in off the crossbar, gave the caretaker boss a third win in charge.

Wrexham went ahead when Will Evans turned into his own net but a minute later Tom Denton levelled it up. Jordan Ponticelli then side-footed the visitors back ahead only for Liam Mandeville to reply.

Weston then won it as Chesterfield continue their recent improvement.

Bromley also grabbed a crucial last minute goal.

They took a point against Solihull Moors after Corey Whitely’s goal in time added on. Frankie Raymond hauled them back into it after George Carline and an own goal had the visitors comfortable.

A late, late goal from Chike Kandi rescued a point at the death for Dagenham at home to Stockport County.

Liam McAlinden thought he had won it with his first goal since signing from FC Halifax but it was heartache five minutes into time added on.

All the action at Hartlepool United came in the first half.

Luke Moleyneux opened the scoring at home to Aldershot before Mark Shelton made things safe.

Pools are back to within three points of the play-off places after a convincing win.
