Two National League Sides Go Strong In The FA Cup

By Sam Elliott

There is sure to be National League representation in the third round of the FA Cup.

AFC Fylde created history by being in the hat with the Premier League big boys for the very first time.

They had an ultimately comfortable afternoon in south west London as they won 2-0 at Isthmian League Kingstonian.

Jordan Williams’ first half double was enough - now they wait to find out who they face in the New Year.

The name of Eastleigh will also be in Monday’s draw.

They will have to overcome Crewe Alexandra at their home ground still but the Spitfires just refused to give it up.

Marcus Barnes put in front close range a few minutes from time to make it 1-1 and keep the dream alive.

It was a case of oh so near for Altrincham, pictured.

Having drawn level at Fratton Park seven minutes from time when Josh Hancock converted a penalty, a tricky replay loomed for the 2008 winners.

But four minutes into injury time came heartbreak.

Brett Pitman got a last-gasp winner and Alty go out - it was so hard to stomach for manager Phil Parkinson, his players and the travelling fans on the south coast.

Second round results:
Portsmouth 2-1 Altrincham
Eastleigh 1-1 Crewe Alexandra
Kingstonian 0-2 AFC Fylde
