The ex-Premier League Stars That Have Graced The National League

By David Richardson

After former Wolvehampton Wanderers striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake signed for the Vanarama National League North's AFC Telford United last week, we've taken a look at the other Premier League players to have played in our divisions.

Ebanks-Blake immediately got off the mark for Telford, scoring twice in their FA Trophy third qualifying round tie win over Droylsden on the weekend.

The 31-year-old played over 70 times in the highest level of English football for Wolves - here's a host of others that have made the move into the National League.

Barry Hayles (Truro City)
Scored 20 goals as Truro were promoted to the National League South in 2011. Left the club in 2012 for St Albans City but soon returned to the White Tigers. Played 75 times in the Premier League for Fulham from 2001 to 2004.

Grant Holt (Barrow)
The current Barrow player-coach has played 80 times in the Premier League, mainly for Norwich City but also Aston Villa. He scored 24 top flight goals in that time and was named the Canaries Player of the Season in 2011-12. The 36-year-old striker signed for Barrow earlier this month.

Jobi McAnuff (Leyton Orient)
Made 38 appearances for Reading during their first season back in the Premier League in 2012-13. Re-signed for Orient in the summer having been released by the club in 2016.

Darren Carter (Solihull Moors)
Captains Solihull in the National League having played for Birmingham City and then West Bromwich Albion in the top flight. Was part of Forest Green Rovers' play-off winning side last season.

Paul Merson (Tamworth)
Won two First Division titles, the FA Cup and the League Cup between 1985 and 1997 with Arsenal. Signed for now National League North side Tamworth in 2006 but only played once.

Edgar Davids (Barnet)
The former Ajax, Juventus and Barcelona star played 40 times in the Premier League for Tottenham Hotspur from 2005 to 2007. Became player-manager of Barnet in October 2012, who were relegated that season to the National League. Resigned as manager in January 2014.

Luke Chadwick (Cambridge United)
Came through Manchester United’s prestigious academy and made 25 top flight appearances between 1999 and 2003. Received a Premier League winners’ medal in 2000/01. Signed for Cambridge in 2014 and helped them win the FA Trophy and promotion via the play-offs, that season.
