Sharp-Shooting Spireites Edge Closer On Eventful Night

The battle-lines have been drawn as we approach the final six weeks - but Chesterfield won’t need most of them!

The relentless leaders now have 91 points, 23 more than second place Barnet, and need two more wins to seal the deal. They beat Oxford City 2-0, Tom Naylor making sure after Will Grigg’s early strike.

It’s looking bleak for York City at the other end. A 6-1 hammering at Altrincham saw Alex Newby score twice and they need to ditch the wretched form and fast if they are to have any hope.

Sides around them lost. Dorking Wanderers defeated at Southend United as Harry Cardwell made it safe. Woking also went down at Rochdale.

Amari Morgan Smith earned Kidderminster Harriers a 1-1 draw at home to AFC Fylde and Boreham Wood lost 2-0 at Solihull Moors, Tahvon Campbell on the scoresheet again.

Gateshead are back in the play-off spots afte Dajuane Brown’s winner against Dagenham. Aldershot are also looking good and eased past Ebbsfleet and old boss Danny Searle - Laurent Tolaj at the double in the 4-2 victory.

In the National League North, Tamworth took a giant stride towards the title as they came from behind to beat Gloucester City.

Dan Creaney’s goal a minute from time means they need they now sit 15 points clear.

Chorley went down 2-1 at South Shields, Dylan Stephenson hit a very late winner, as Hereford bit back to draw 3-3 with Alfreton. Aaron Skinner in the 95th minute was the home hero.

Ritchie Bennett earned a great 1-0 victory for Southport at Chester.

There was success for Curzon Ashton at Scarborough. Adam Barton completed the victory.

Darlington’s great escape is on, they won at Blyth Spartans and there was also three points for Warrington as Connor Woods scored twice at Farsley Celtic.

In the National League South, Yeovil Town appear to be wobbling at the wrong time.

Chippenham inflicted a second home defeat in four days but second place Chelmsford City blew the chance to up the heat - going down 2-0 at Maidstone. Sam Corne and Matt Rush got the goals.

Worthing’s form is a worry since Adam Hinchelwood’s exit - a 3-2 home defeat to Farnborough was not the result the Rebels needed.

Taunton Town have hope after a superb 3-0 win at Torquay United. Ross Stearn made it safe.

Elsewhere it was a great night for play-off hunting Bath City, Braintree Town and St Albans City who all won.
