Reece Is A Rock In Gibraltar As They Create History

Facing the likes of Arsenal star Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Joseph Chipolina's second-half penalty kick settled the Nations League Group D4 encounter.

It was Gibraltar’s first ever competitive win since becoming a Uefa-affiliated team in 2013.

They did it after 23 matches and Darlington striker Styche came off the bench to help make it happen.

He told us: “It is the best feeling you could imagine for such a small nation. To win against all odds, and to be as disciplined as we were was amazing. It’s definitely the best moment in my career.

“The whole squad is so close, so when we achieve a result like this it’s down to the togetherness we have as a group.

“My Nan is Gibraltarian. She grew up here, and all her side of my family still live here. So from a family point of view it’s massive because I know the pride they have for their country and the fact I am representing for them.

“Also from a personal point of view it’s huge as a football player. Not many players even from League One down get to play for a country in a UEFA Nations League, let alone win a game so this is a massive accomplishment as a player for me.”

Not only did he have a great weekend on the international front, but Darlington won 2-1 at FC United to kick-start third National League North season.

“It was needed for sure,” said the 29-year-old former Tamworth, Kidderminster and Macclesfield goal-getter.

“Competition for places is vital if we are to do well. But having this opportunity and to create history is something that can never be taken away from me.”
