With 11 games to go the side find themselves nine points off safety, writes Tom Feaheny.
They next face Maidstone United who are like the Gulls trying to stay in the league with both sides knowing they have to get points on the board as soon as possible.
"It's not an impossible task - it's a tough one, I accept that, but it's always been a tough one," Owers told Devon Live.
"Wasn't the club four or five points away with three games to play last season, and still did it.
"We are going to play most of the teams around us as well, and that will only help the cause if we can take points off them."
Owers believes that this weekend could prove to be crucial for the side if they do indeed remain in the Vanarama National League.
"We have to win as many games as possible, we know that, but if we can have a run at any stage now, we can still do it."
"We'll have a good look at them and have planned for it."
