Non-League Day Preview:Vanarama National League North

By Tom Feaheny

Non-League Day sees a full fixture list in the Vanarma National League North with some key games at both ends of the table.

York City's new manager Martin Gray has promised change and he will hope he can lead the Minstermen back to winning ways they were defeated in their last league match then lost to South Shields in the FA Cup, they take on Kevin Wilkin's Brackley Town who sit third in the table and progressed to the 4th qualifying round after beating Braintree Town, writes Tom Feaheny.

It was a weekend off for Tamworth due to not participating in the FA Cup action, they currently sit sixth in the league, they take on a Gainsborough Trinity side who have played two cup games in recent days and it was worth it for them as they got into 4th qualifying round of the FA Cup, Trinity will be hoping they can now get back to winning ways in the league.

Two sides who had a free weekend were Southport who have had managerial change after losing four league matches in a row and dropping down to 15th in the league, they take on Spennymoor Town who are fourth in the table after picking up back to back wins before the FA Cup break.

Salford City are 11 games unbeaten in the league and sit second only behind on goal difference, they didn't have a game last weekend while they face Leamington who played twice, the Brakes won their last league match and will be hoping they can make it back to back wins in what will be a tough game.

Two of the sides fighting at the wrong end of the table meet on Saturday as North Ferriby United who are bottom with just a single win all season take on FC United of Manchester who will take a lot of heart from their fightback in the cup and then replay win with only nine men.

The team who United beat in the FA Cup third qualifying round are Stockport County with Jim Gannon wanting a reaction they sit just a point off the play-off places as they travel to Darlington who have a new management team in place and are level on points with the side.

Over 5000 tickets have been handed out to schoolchildren in the local area for Curzon Ashton's game against top of the table Harrogate Town, both sides go into this match in a good run of form with the Nash winning late last week in the league while Town won their replay in the FA Cup third qualifying round.

Mark Bower's Bradford Park Avenue were the team defeated by Town in the cup, with him wanting the side to take confidence from a good run of form and putting in two impressive performances against the table toppers, they face Kidderminster Harriers who may be five places behind Avenue but are only separated by a point, they have back to back wins in all competitions.

Blyth Spartans winning run came to an end in their last league game, they though are fifth in the table and have had an impressive opening to the season, they take on Nuneaton Town who were disappointed to be knocked out of the FA Cup but did gain victory in their last league game.

John McDermott's Alfreton Town take on Matt Jansen's Chorley with both sides just outside the play-off places, in such a competitive league they have the same amount of wins.

Both AFC Telford United and Boston United avoided being involved in cup upset this week, with the Bucks needing a replay while the Pilgrims had a free mid-week after beating AFC Mansfield in the first game, three points separate both these sides who know a good winning run would move them into play-off contention.
