Many Matters Now Settled With Just One Week Left To Go

By Sam Elliott

Important matters were settled as lifelines were thrown on a high energy penultimate weekend of the season.

The Vanarama National League sais goodbye to Kidderminster Harriers, relegated after Paul McCallum’s goal handed Eastleigh all three points at Aggborough.

Dorking Wanderers are also down despite a valiant effort at Rochdale, the 1-1 draw not enough to prolong their two year stay in the division.

Wealdstone have given themselves a great chance of survival - they beat champions Chesterfield 1-0, Dillon De Silva was the match winner.

But Boreham Wood set themselves up for a grandstand finish to their season - and Aldershot now need a transformation like theirs to make the play-offs.

An easy 3-0 gave Wood a real chance of avoiding the drop and will make for a thrilling final day. The goals in the live TNT Sports match came from Lee Ndlovu, Erico Sousa and Kabongo Tshimanga.

York City look safe but Woking certainly don’t. A 2-0 win in front of over 7,500 as Dipo Akinyemi made the game - and the Minstermen, surely - secure.

Altrincham are in the play-offs after a good win at Ebbsfleet United, who are now just one spot above the drop zone.

Southend United could still make the top seven against all odds - Harry Cardwell confirmed victory at AFC Fylde.

There’s still some spots up for grabs. That’s because FC Halifax fell to defeat against Barnet and Gateshead threw away the points late at now safe Maidenhead United.

Bromley secured a top three finish but defeating Solihull Moors 3-0, Michael Cheek added another to his tally. Oldham Athletic are winless in nine, a 0-0 draw at Oxford City ends their season. Elsewhere Hartlepool and Dagenham drew 1-1.

With title matters sorted, Yeovil Town got their hands on the National League South trophy and celebrated with a 3-1 win over Dartford but it wasn’t a party for everyone. Sam Pearson, Dylan Morgan and Alex Fisher all scored.

It was heartache for the Darts who were relegated after a season of hoped turned into disaster.

Hampton & RB took control of their play-off destiny but it wasn’t convincing against Dover, a 1-0 win earned by Issac Pitblado.

Bath City took a giant stride too, Elliott Frear getting an early winner against Torquay United. But Aveley are still alive - they won 2-1 at Weston-super-Mare.

Worthing beat St Albans City 4-2 as Jack Spong got two - they’re in the top three. But Braintree are still hunting for home advantage, Shaq Coulthirst’s double downed Havant & Waterlooville.

Eastbourne can sense safety after a 3-0 win over Chippenham but Taunton Town won at Farnborough to dent their top seven hopes.

In the National League North, three clubs face a tense final day with one relegation spot still to be taken.

Farsley Celtic were undone at Darlington, who are now safe and will drop if they lose on the final day. Blyth Spartans know their future is also under real threat after a 5-1 hammering at Scunthorpe. Danny Whitehall scored twice.

A point will do for Rushall Olympic despite a 3-0 loss at a Tyler Walton-inspired Southport.

Brackley have a two point cushion over Chorley for third place, a 3-1 victory over Chester was earned by a Connor Hall double. The Seals now need a miracle on the final day to join them in the play-offs.

Curzon Ashton are nearly there - player-manager Craig Mahon scored twice as they thrashed Gloucester City. Boston didn’t help their chances, a 0-0 draw at home to Scarborough leaves them with work to do.

Elsewhere it was a good day for champions Tamworth, Hereford, Peterborough Sports, Chorley, Alfreton Town and Buxton.
