1-1 Basingstoke Boxing Day 2011

The Adver report from York road on Boxing Day In a match high on incident and commitment, including six yellow cards, but low on gilt-edged scoring chances Maidenhead United grabbed a share of the spoils after a 1-1 draw with Basingstoke Town on Boxing Day. In an even contest, the hosts who eventually took the lead on 60 minutes when substitute keeper Chay Morris hit his clearance straight at Magpies frontman Alex Wall. He picked up the loose ball and scored into an empty net from a narrowing angle. Morris was forced to don the gloves just before half-time when first choice keeper Ashley Bayes, a former Magpie, fell awkwardly after jumping for a ball with Maidenhead's Mark Nisbet. He was stretchered off after a 10-minute delay and taken to hospital. Unusually, this end-to-end contest started to go Basingstoke's way after they conceded, and on 75 minutes they equalised. The excellent Adam Mekki played a loose clearance into the path of Angus MacDonaald, whose accurate cross to the edge of the six yard area was met with a powerful header from Ogunbote. Yet it was the hosts who could have snatched all three points when, in the final minute of stoppage time, striker Richard Pacquette was given the opportunity to go one-on-one with Morris, but failed to control the ball properly allowing the Basingstoke keeper to deny him what would have been the match-winner. The two teams meet again at The Camrose on Saturday.
