County Part Ways With Long-Serving Boss Jim Gannon

Stockport County have announced manager Jim Gannon has left the club with immediate effect.

They say they made the “extremely difficult decision” which was not one the club have "taken lightly".

Gannon played 480 matches for the club and then became manager over three spells.

He recently celebrated 500 games in charge and the club legend leaves County fourth in the National League table.

His team beat Dagenham 2-0 on Tuesday night, just a week after running Premier League West Ham United close in the FA Cup.

Fan-favourite Gannon helped the club back into Step 1 in 2019 after securing their first title win in 52 years.

Assistant Dave Conlon will take interim charge until a new manager is found, the club have said.

A statement read: “Stockport County Football Club have today parted company with Manager Jim Gannon.

“This has been an extremely difficult decision for the Club’s Board to take and not a decision taken lightly. The decision is not results based but is centred around culture.

“We thank Jim for his longstanding service to the Club as both player and manager; he has rightfully been immortalised into the Club’s Hall of Fame and will always be a huge part of County’s history.

“We want to reassure fans that every decision made, we believe to be in the best long-term interests of the Club.

“Assistant Manager Dave Conlon will take interim responsibility whilst a new Manager is appointed."
