Rosler Tells Jansen: The Wrong Team Lost

Matt Jansen accepted football is a cruel game following Chorley’s bitter FA Cup exit.

The Vanarama National League North club were leading former Conference champions Fleetwood Town thanks to Marcus Carver when he pounced on a loose ball.

But the Cod Army - down to ten men when Lewis Coyle was shown a red card - clawed their way back into it when Devante Cole headed home.

The killer blow was yet to arrive and it came two minutes into injury time when Jack Sowerby converted.

But encouraging words from the former Manchester City star in the opposite dug-out were of little comfort to Jansen.

“It’s very difficult for us to take obviously. It’s hard to accept for our players. Even Uwe Rosler the Fleetwood manager has said we really didn’t deserve that.

“He has even apologised and said the better team didn’t win the match.

“Did the options on the bench tell with their huge squad? Maybe it did - I think we posed more problems than they posed us. I think we had more chances.

“The team were fantastic. There is not a single player you can grumble at,” the former Blackburn Rovers striker told the club’s audioboom service.

“Fleetwood are full time and three leagues above us but I thought we were outstanding. We gave it everything and it’s a cruel game at times.

“It was a huge performance from the boys and it really does show how strong we are and how much we have progressed.”
