The Bluebirds find themselves in the Vanarama National League relegation zone for the first time this season.
With just one win since mid-August, the club slipped into the bottom four as a result of Tuesday night’s late 3-2 defeat to Chester.
Hornby, who took over when Barrow parted company with Micky Moore last week, says they be doing everything possible to drag themselves up the table.
They welcome Aldershot on Saturday with the fans desperate for a first victory since September 3.
“I want to assure the supporters that we are working very hard to turn things around,” he said after the midweek loss.
“The club have had the problem for a while and we are working with a thin squad thanks to injuries and suspension.
“We must keep plugging away and we will - we are looking to get that win that we think can turn things around.
“We need new players but until the new manager comes in we have to work with what we have got.”
He added: “We are fully focused on the Aldershot game now and we have a big job ahead of us.”
