Dragons Fire To Break Notts Hearts In Colossal Encounter

By Sam Elliott

Wrexham took a giant stride towards the National League title with victory in a classic as the colossal collision of the top two lived up to all exception.

An inspired second half display from the Dragons saw them take control of this barely believable championship race.

Goals from Paul Mullin, Jacob Mendy and Elliot Lee handed the hosts a three point lead - and a late, late penalty save from Ben Foster added to the incredible drama.

Manager Phil Parkinson said after the 3-2 win: “It was a high calibre game - and great advert for the division.

“Thankfully we came out on top but all credit to Notts County for making it such a wonderful match, but we are keeping our feet firmly on the ground.”

It wasn’t such a great day for Scunthorpe United who were relegated to the National League North after home defeat to Oldham Athletic.

Yeovil Town now need a miracle to avoid joining them in Step 2.

Jason Prior’s goal means Dorking Wanderers should be safe but Torquay United win for a fourth game in a row.

Frank Nouble’s double did for Maidenhead but Aldershot’s fightback at Eastleigh means they have work to do still.

The big play-off battle ended 1-1 between Bromley and Boreham Wood, Lee Ndlovu earned Luke Garrard’s team a point after Michael Cheek’s opener.

King’s Lynn Town are back on top of the National League North.

Josh Coulson’s double helped the Linnet’s to a fine 2-0 win at Alfreton Town.

Kidderminster did them a favour by turning over leaders AFC Fylde 2-0.
