Consistency Is Key Says Alfreton Boss McDermott

Having signed 16 new players this summer since becoming manager, John McDermott wants to see more consistency from his team after a promising pre-season defeat.

The Reds suffered a 5-1 loss last night to a Notts County XI although held the League Two side 1-1 at half-time.

Alfreton also secured new investment this summer, giving McDermott the opportunity to put together his new squad.

The former Grimsby Town full-back reckons his squad is now complete but is after more stability in their performances.

"We started off too slow and it felt like deja-vu with the Rotherham game where we did the same," he told the club's website after their defeat. "I felt we lacked aggression and our tempo was slow, it wasn't what I wanted.

"We then clicked into gear and the passages of play were different, we were fluid and passed the ball much better. We scored the best goal of the game after excellent build up play.

"Flair wont win you anything and that proved last night, we looked dis-organised at times. We made the same mistakes and our decision making wasn't good in the second half.

"It was a good learning curve for us and the lesson is we have to be consistent, in the league we have to be consistent and do things back to back, we want to be a strong, aggressive side and if we start doing these things we'll do some damage."
