An Exciting National League North And South Day Awaits

By Sam Elliott

Every side is now at least a third of the way through their season and things are starting to take shape.

No time for panic or - at the more enjoyable end - over excitement of course, but we’re beginning to get a vision of how things could be panning out with the half-way point just weeks away.

Tamworth fans would have probably taken any period as National League North table-toppers this term, let alone be sitting pretty well after the clocks went back. But once you’ve got a taste for the top, you don’t want to give it up.

However, if the Lambs are to stay there they will need to arrest their mini slump and fast - ideally for them at home to Banbury United on Saturday.

The chasers smell blood. South Shields upped the heat on Tuesday and will want to be ready to profit from another possible slip by seeing to Southport.

Scunthorpe United are just a point behind those two and have a home game against Gloucester City and the Tigers should beware - the Iron have hit 12 goals in the last 180 minutes in front of their own fans.

Chester are looking for a fifth league win in a row as they close in on the play-offs and it’s a trip to Darlington up net.

Alfreton Town are already there and are up to fourth, and are of course still going strong in the FA Cup. This weekend it’s Scarborough Athletic while Peterborough Sports - on a six game unbeaten run - are at Chorley.

There’s a huge second against third clash in the National League South.

Bath City host Aveley, who want a fifth win in a row, and they are both looking to give leaders Yeovil Town - on a 12 game winning run - something to think about.

Mark Cooper will be urging focus from the Glovers and the experienced boss will know Dover Athletic will see their visit to Huish Park as a free hit.

Braintree Town are bang in form with four wins from five and go to Eastbourne Borough who need to get their season up and running.

So do Havant & Waterlooville, they face a Torquay United side licking their wounds after Tuesday’s underwhelming display against Yeovil.

It’s fourth against fifth as Maidstone United take on Hampton & RB and elsewhere Worthing go to Weston-super-Mare.
