All New Year's Day's National League South Action

The leaders yelled ‘catch us if you can’ after another big win - but the other chasers won’t be giving up hope just yet.

Wealdstone defeated Slough Town 2-1 in the day’s big game, a result which sees the Stones roll seven points clear.

Dean Brennan’s team hold the advantage after first-half goals from Michee Efete and top scorer Ross Lafayette did the damage. Ryan Bird’s late goal couldn’t turn things on its head.

The leaders have the points in the bag but rule Havant out at your peril.

They stood firm against a big test - a trip to Weymouth - to take a 1-0 win home. Simon Walton was the match winner but keeper Ross Worner’s late penalty save made him the hero.

Bath City have won four from six after winning the A4 derby with Chippenham, the comeback confirmed by another Tom Smith firecracker. Jerry Gill’s men have played more games than the others, but are very much in touch.

Dorking Wanderers couldn’t make it six wins in a row - they slip from second to fourth after going down 3-2 at Eastbourne, who have revenge for Boxing Day’s heavy defeat. Ian Gayle headed home the clincher.

Steve King’s impact is being felt at Dartford - a 4-0 win over Welling United was a fourth victory in five. Jacob Berkeley-Agyepong hit a classy double for the Darts, who are now into the play-off places.

Connor Essam secured a much needed winner for Hemel Hempstead against St Albans City.

Another encouraging display from Tonbridge Angels earned a well-deserved 2-2 draw at Maidstone United.

The big Essex derby again went the way of Chelmsford City as Braintree Town lost for a sixth time in seven. Shaun Jeffers’ penalty ten minutes from time was the difference, the Clarets just two points off the top seven.

Hungerford’s hopes of staying in the division were not helped by a 2-1 home defeat to Oxford City - Kyran Lofthouse notching the all-important goal.

Dulwich Hamlet seem to be doing just fine away from home - a 3-0 win at Hampton was simple for Gavin Rose’s team.
