York Snap Up Former Chairboy

Defender Daniel Rowe has joined York City after being released by SkyBet League Two side Wycombe Wanderers.

Rowe had been training with the Minstermen for the last two weeks and has today signed a contract until the summer of 2019.

The 22-year-old could make his City debut in tomorrow's game against Tamworth at Bootham Crescent.

Manager Martin Gray told the club`s press officer Ian Appleyard: "Daniel is a defensive player who can cover centre-back, right-back, or sit in front of the midfield.

"He has a lot of experience for his age having played seventy-five games in the Football League for Wycombe. He deals well with the ball under pressure and has a nice selection of passes. He is six-foot tall and it is so important that you can manage the physical aspects at this level."

Rowe becomes City's fourth new signing in just under four weeks following the permanent arrival of defender/winger David Ferguson and loan moves for goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell and striker James Gray.

Born in Billingham, Rowe started his professional career at Rotherham United and moved to Wycombe, initially on loan, in March 2014.

He signed a permanent deal with Wycombe in summer 2015 and also played on loan for Barrow AFC before his release this month.

"I have been looking for clubs to sign for, closer to home, and York was the stand-out option," said Rowe. "It is a really good club with big ambitions.

"The manager has told me all about the future of the club. It doesn't deserve to be in this league - it is a Football League club - and I think everything is in place to get promoted. I will be focusing on getting the club where it needs to be."

Rowe made his professional debut for Rotherham against City in a Johnstone`s Paint Trophy tie at Bootham Crescent in October 2013.

Meanwhile, winger Kaine Felix has been released from his contract with York by mutual consent.

Felix, 22, joined the Minstermen from Boston United two summers ago but started only eight games and finished last season on loan at Stockport County.

He made a total of twenty-four appearances for the club and made his final appearance as a substitute in the Emirates FA Cup defeat at South Shields four games ago.
