Wrexham Have No Interest In The Table Yet Says Ricketts

Sam Ricketts paid tribute to his players’ ability to shrug off their first defeat of the season.

Wrexham put their surprise loss to Solihull Moors to the back of their minds by beating Aldershot 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The result was enough for them to return to the top of the National League following FC Halifax Town’s draw at Sutton United.

But Ricketts seemed only interested in the character his players showed - and not the fact they sit in first place in the table again.

“Mentality wise, it was a really good three points for us,” he said after goals from Stuart Beavon and Jordan Maguire-Drew secured another win.

“We didn’t want a hangover after a few challenging games. We showed character to get that win.

“It is only one defeat in our first seven and we’re delighted by that. It was the type of performance we needed to show the fans.

“We’ve still got plenty of things to work on and improve on but the supporters will be very happy to be back on top. The table means nothing on the first day of September, we’ll look at it in April when it matters.”

There is no time for the Red Dragons to draw breath - they face the pre-weekend leaders Halifax at the Racecourse Ground on Tuesday night.
