Resourceful Hawks Swoop To Keep Up The Pace At The Summit

Havant & Waterlooville had to show a different side of their game as their excellent volunteers were rewarded with three points.

Supporters were in action as early as 8am to help clear the covers from the Westleigh Park playing surface and ensure the game against Weston-super-Mare went ahead.

They got their wish and Lee Bradbury’s side kept their end of the bargain too - beating the Seagulls 2-0.

It was an important result for the Hawks after second-placed Dartford’s late winner against Hampton & Richmond Borough.

“The pitch was terrible in the end but well done to all the volunteers and people at the club for getting the game on,” Bradbury told the club’s Twitter page.

“We’ve got a real good community feel at the club. We had the walking football team coming down to help push the covers in the freezing cold and rain. Some of them are 70 - it shows a great togetherness.

“We haven’t got any spare midweeks so we needed to get it on today. We needed to adapt and play a little bit longer than we’d like to but we’ve got Jason Prior who can help us with that and bring people into play.

“It’s a massive three points for us. Weston are a good side but we defended really well and it’s another good clean sheet.”
