Owers Wants Emphatic Win To Be The Start

Torquay United head coach Gary Owers says his side must build on gaining their first three points of the season after they beat Maidenhead United 4-0.

Josh McQuoid, Rhys Murphy, Luke Young and Jamie Reid strikes were the difference in this match as the Gulls finally gained the elusive win. Match highlights here, writes Tom Feaheny.

Torquay find themselves now just five points off getting out the relegation zone.

“I’m grateful for that, it was a great victory. It was a great night. It’s only a small step, we’re not getting carried away. That’s our first win. That’s a starting point for us,” said Owers to the club's website.

"I’m pleased for the players because they needed a win and hopefully, they can grow in confidence now."

“Most of all, I’m pleased for the supporters. It was great to hear them singing at the end and cheering the lads off. They would have enjoyed that, that was for them.”

They next take on Dover Athletic who are at the right end of the table, Owers knows what to expect, but is confident.

"We’ve got a tough game on Saturday but if we can find that rhythm and tempo again we’ll give anyone a game.

“I don’t think we should fear anyone in this league. If we can get to that level, we’ll give anyone a game. Anyone can beat anyone on the day.”
