National League 'Tougher Than Ever' Reckons Cox

By David Richardson

Paul Cox knows his Barrow side have to be ready from the off as they prepare for what he considers the toughest Vanarama National League season there has been.

The Bluebirds have enjoyed a promising pre-season thus far having missed out on the play-offs last season - with a trip travel to Dagenham and Redbridge on August 5th to come.

A narrow defeat to Blackburn Rovers was followed by a victory over Scottish Premier League side Motherwell.

Three successive draws have followed, with a stalemate against Crewe Alexandra sandwiched in between by 1-1 ties against Boston United and most recently Nottingham Forest's U23s.

Barrow go again tomorrow night at Lancaster City.

"Some big decisions need making now in terms of going forward because I envisage this league being tougher than it's ever been," Cox told the club's website. "For us to progress, we do need to add to the quality that we've got.

"We've got a hell of a start, the games come thick and fast - Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday.

"Our decision making is now key to make sure that we've covered every eventuality going into the first two months of the season. You can find yourself trying to catch up with the teams that have catered for and prepared for everything to come."
