Local Boy Joins Moors On A Month`s Loan

Solihull Moors have completed the signing of 22-year-old goalkeeper Nick Townsend on an initial month`s loan from SkyBet Championship side Barnsley.

Born in Solihull, Townsend came through the youth system at Birmingham City and spent over twelve years at St Andrew’s.

He enjoyed loan spells with Oxford City and Lincoln City – gaining National League experience with the Imps over two separate spells.

Townsend was then loaned out to Barnsley in August 2015, before making his move to Oakwell a permanent one the following month, signing a three-year deal with the then-League One side.

He made his Football League debut in a 4-1 victory over Swindon Town in September 2015 and went on to make seven further appearances as the Tykes gained promotion to the Championship via the play-offs at the end of the 2015/16 campaign.

The form of Adam Davies has left Townsend with limited first-team game time at Barnsley, with him having to settle as the capable back-up ‘keeper.

Townsend is eligible for tonight’s fixture away at Eastleigh.
