Joyful Jay Has A Confession To Make

Maidstone United’s victory against Wrexham was secured by a young player the club’s manager Jay Saunders admitted he wasn’t convinced about originally.

The Stones yesterday secured their first win of the season in what has been a challenging start.

They won 2-1 and the match settling goal was by up and coming Jack Richards.

After a number of appearances from the bench, he was given a start and rewarded his manager Saunders.

The boss was delighted with him - and had a little confession to make.

He told Kent Online Sport: “I’ll be completely honest, when he first came to the club, I wasn’t sure on him as a first-year apprentice.

“I wasn’t quite sure whether he could handle it but he’s just got better and better as it’s gone on.

“Obviously I know him well from coming through the academy and working with him but he’s just got a lot of confidence and he doesn’t let anything faze him.

“He’s just turned 18, and to come into the side and put on that performance against a big club like Wrexham, it speaks volumes.

“To get a goal, at home, in front of the fans, it’s fantastic,” Saunders said.
