It’s Friendly Fire! All Of Monday’s Pre-Season Action

Barrow know how to get their fans pumped before kick-off – Bluebirds fans had barely got to their seats before the club announced two signings in rapid succession ahead of their friendly with Newcastle United U23, writes Tom Scott.

With over 700 Football League appearances between them – Brian Wilson and Jason Taylor joined Ian Evatt’s revolution minutes before kick-off – and were thrown straight in by the Barrow boss.

The pair started among the substitutes but took the field for their debuts in the second-half – and Jason Taylor even got himself on the scoresheet.

The hosts slid to a 3-2 defeat - but started like a house on fire when John Rooney curled a free-kick past Nathan Harker after three minutes.

Newcastle levelled half an hour later when Ivan Toney nipped in to capitalise on a Barrow defensive mix-up.

After the break, the visitors went in front almost immediately – before extending their lead further to lead by two.

Enter Jason Taylor. The former Rotherham, Oldham and Eastleigh midfielder grabbed himself a debut goal – tapping home from a rebound – immediately winning plaudits from his new fans.

Billericay were on the road again, and Harry Wheeler’s men bagged their first pre-season win – overcoming Aveley 3-0.

The Blues’ new signing Jake Howell opened the scoring after only six first-half minutes to give Ricay and early lead.

That goal set the tone for the game and the visitors doubled their lead courtesy of a Sammy Deering strike two minutes before half-time.

Wheeler rang the changes shortly after the break to great effect - with new signing Moses Emmanuel linking up well with Jordy Mangol – who scored the games third and final goal.

St. Albans City completed a second-half turnaround at Biggleswade Town to claim their second victory in a week.

Biggleswade took the lead just after the hour mark at Langsford Road but were in front for a matter of seconds – Solomon Sambou slammed in a 25-yard free-kick to equalise.

The visitors pushed for a goal and forced a winner five minutes from time, courtesy of a trialist. Trying his luck from outside the area – the trialist sent a message to his prospective employers by finding the net.
