Eastleigh Cavalry Not Over The Hill Yet

By David Richardson

Richard Hill knows he and the Eastleigh supporters must stay patient while his injured players return to fitness.

The Spitfires were beaten 2-0 at leader Dover Athletic on Saturday - watch match highlights here.

Goals from Tranmere loanee James Alabi and Connor Essam in either half extended Dover's unbeaten league run to nine games to leave Eastleigh in 17th.

Hill's side are struggling for consistency which isn't being helped by their injury problems.

He said: "It was another frustrating day. We're up against it aren't we? Like I said to the lads, the only players we've got are the ones in the dressing room so we're up against it a little bit.

"I thought at times we played some decent football but we just couldn't open them up, we couldn't find that little bit of a gap to give us an opportunity. Everybody here today is what we've got fit.

"At the moment the cavalry are not coming over the hill so it's pretty difficult when you setup all week with players in mind to come into the team on Saturday then through no fault of their own, they announces themselves injured or not fit on the Thursday or Friday, that's difficult.

"We need to get a few bodies back. Where we are at the minute, we need to keep plugging on and I'll ask the supporters to keep plugging on with us."
