Cox: There's No Awkwardness At Barrow Return

By Sam Elliott

Paul Cox knows all too well that football has a wicked sense of humour. Now he wants to have the last laugh!

Guiseley's new manager takes charge of his first away game tonight and as luck would have it, it's at the club he quit less than three weeks ago.

Cox returns to Barrow just days into his new role and the Lions boss has no concerns at all about what's ahead.

Ahead of tonight's trip to Holker Street, he said: "Football does have a funny old habit of making you smile sometimes.

"It's got a built-it sense of humour! What are the odds on my second match being away to Barrow? You have got to laugh but do you know what, there are so many great people up there I can't wait to see.

"The fans were fantastic to me as well. Real football people and I can't wait to see them, even if I am an away manager these days.

"It will be a strange experience sitting in the other dug out but that's the game we're in. I enjoyed my time at Barrow and have nothing but good memories."

His new club have ambition and although first and foremost it's about staying in the league, Cox is at Guiseley because he sees big potential.

"I said last week, there is the possibility to do something here and one day you never know where ambition can take you," he adds.

"Its small steps but I was encouraged by what I saw on Saturday in my first game and a clean sheet and a point against a side as strong as Eastleigh is pleasing.

"Now my focus is on getting a first win and with football as it is you wouldn't bet against it being up at Barrow!"
