Bravery Of Barrow Stand In Gives Bluebirds A Vital Victory

By Sam Elliott

Hopeful Micky Moore enhanced his chances of becoming Barrow's permanent manager as the Bluebirds interim boss was rewarded for bravery.

Barrow beat Boreham Wood 2-1 at Holker Street but things could have been very different as they had to play the entire second half a man short.

Midfielder Alex Harvey was given his marching orders just before half time but as Moore explained, they made a bold decision.

"It was a good performance and also a good result. Sometimes you don't get both, but we managed to play well and get the three points," Moore outlined.

"But when you go 2-0 up then within seconds they make it 2-1, you do start to panic!

"In the first half we played well and caused them problems, but once you go down to ten men it changes things.

"We kept two up front. We thought that if we sacrificed a forward it would only invite pressure. By keeping our attack the way it was, we had an outlet.

"If it would have been the final few minutes then maybe I would have done but we had the whole of the second half to play.

"Sometimes you have got to be brave. I spoke to the players about being brave in the week. We took a chance and it thankfully paid off."
