Boreham Wood will meet West Ham United’s U21 side in the final of the National League Cup - and Luke Garrard is desperate not the miss a golden opportunity to land some silverware.

Wood secured their place by beating Truro City 2-0 on Tuesday night.

They will face the young Hammers in March after they came out on top 3-1 at Tamworth last night.

Garrard was thrilled to progress - even if he wasn’t impressed with the performance - as late goals in the second half from Regan Booty and Matt Rush broke ten man Truro’s brave resistance.

The Wood manager wants to become the first National League club to win the cup, following Leeds United’s triumph last season.

But he knows his team must be better next month against the energetic young Premier League 2 players if they are to lift the trophy.

“By hook or by crook, getting into the final was all that was needed,” Garrard said.

“There is a little bit of frustration but if you would have offered me a National League Cup final place at the start of the season, I would have been over the moon.

“We’ve used this competition superbly, we’ve been positive in it.

“We have a great relationship with West Ham and we’re really looking forward to the final. It’s a great success, we wanted to get to there desperately.”
