Whing Wants Moors To Banish Nearly Men Tag Against Bromley

By Tom Scott

Andy Whing wants his side to banish their 'nearly men' tag and finally achieve one of their big ambitions as a club.

The Moors - who are bidding to reach the FA Cup third round for the first time ever on Sunday - face old foes Bromley who beat them last May's Promotion Final.

That sparked a dark week for the club who were also defeated in the FA Trophy final seven days later at the hands of Gateshead.

With the chance to finally add a positive new piece of history, Whing says Bromley present the perfect chance to right some wrongs.

He said: "We’ve been pretty close to everything haven’t we, close to promotion, close to the third round.

"It’s about time we finally get over the line. We’re going to do everything we can on Sunday. It would be great for the club to get into the third round because we’re all striving for games like this.

"We can’t keep being the nearly men and there’s no better team to do it against than who we played in the Promotion Final last season.

"They’re [Bromley] a very good team so we’ve gone through what we did last year and what we did wrong last year and how we can hurt them and go and win a game of football.

"It’s been a lot of information, but the lads have taken it in."

Their National League form has been patchy at best - just one win in their last five.

Perfect time to put it on the back burner then, says Whing.

"It’s a good time to park the league for a little bit coming off the back of two disappointing results.

"It’s a big game for us especially with who the opposition are as well after what happened last season. We’re really looking forward to the game and the chance to make history.

"The mindset is good despite the inconsistency of the season. When we’ve turned up, we’ve turned up. In the big games the lads have turned up.

"We need to do that on a more consistent basis but we’re still right up there on the verge of the play-offs."
