Which Clubs Will Be Joining The Party Next Season?

By Sam Elliott

There’s plenty of talk about the teams going up, and those sides about to say goodbye.

But who are the clubs confirmed to join the National League next season - and who are in contention to join them in the next few weeks?

George Busby takes a look at some possible new arrivals, and some family friends.

The EFL:

We already know of one team that will be dropping down from the EFL into the National League for the 2025/26 season.

Morecambe’s defeat on Easter Monday meant that they can no longer pull off a great escape, and return to the National League after 18 years away.

Carlisle United sit in the other relegation place and will likely have to win both games to avoid the drop.

Tranmere Rovers and Accrington Stanley can still be relegated, but they would both have to lose their remaining two games of the season.

Northern Premier League

We knew the identity of the first new arrival for the 2025/26 season by the middle of March.

Macclesfield were crowned Northern Premier League champions after a stellar season, sitting on 106 points already - and they’ll be well tipped for another challenge in the National League North next season.

Ahead of the final day, the four play-off spots are all confirmed.

Worksop Town finished second, and will likely face Ashton in the semi-finals. Unless something dramatic happens, it will be Guiseley against Stockton Town in the other.

Southern League Premier Central:

With one game left, Bedford Town lead the pack in the Southern Premier Central.

They have a three point gap over Kettering Town and need just a point to take the title.

As for the play-offs, two teams have already secured their places, with AFC Telford United - relegated from the National League North last season - and Halesowen Town guaranteed a crack.

The last spot is still up for grabs however as Harborough Town, Stamford, and Spalding United are all battling for a promotion opportunity.

Isthmian League Premier:

An incredible title race in the Isthmian League Premier is leaving everyone on the edge of their seats.

Currently three teams are tied on 84 points at the top of the division, with Billericay Town, Horsham and Dartford all on tenterhooks ahead of Saturday.

Billericay will go up with a win, having a superior goal difference but it's all to play for.

Cray Valley PM have secured a promotion place, whilst the last one is still undecided with Dover holding the last spot, but Chichester City are level on points.

Southern League Premier South:

We already know one team that'll be joining us next season after Merthyr Town have already been crowned champions.

AFC Totton, Walton & Hersham and Gloucester City have also secured their positions for this season as they will finish second, third and fourth respectively.

Meaning we already know Walton & Hersham will play Gloucester City in the play-offs however the chance to play AFC Totton is still up for grabs.

That battle is between Dorchester Town and Havant & Waterlooville, with the Magpies in the driving seat currently.

Dorchester are currently on 72 points compared to Havant’s 71, meaning as long as Dorchester don't drop points on the last matchweek, they'll be heading for the play-offs.
