What Happened On Tuesday Night In The National League?

By Sam Elliott

There were some surprises in store on Tuesday night as the National League action returned.

Leaders Torquay United were looking to storm into the distance, but impressive Altrincham had other ideas.

The Gulls took the lead through Kyle Cameron but Josh Hancock’s penalty levelled things up.

Then, with half-time looming, Ryan Colclough got the Robins rocking - and Torquay’s lead in down to nine points.

That’s because Sutton United are showing no signs that their promotion challenge will be fading anytime soon.

A sensational 2-0 win at Stockport County ruined Simon Rusk’s first game in charge at Edgeley Park.

After a flying start on Saturday, his ten man team couldn’t follow that up as they lost for the first time in seven. A Ben Hinchcliffe own goal on the half hour was doubled up by Issac Olaofe in the second half.

Joe Tomlinson was Mr Reliable once again from the penalty spot as Eastleigh secured a 1-1 home draw with Wrexham.

Kwame Thomas right on half-time put Dean Keates’ team ahead but they couldn’t see it through.

Barnet’s problems continue to mount as an old face came back to haunt them.

It’s now seven defeats in a row after Tim Flowers’ team surrendered a lead to lose 2-1 at Aldershot.

Former Bee Mo Bettamer, 27, grabbed the Shots winner.

Kabo Tshimanga got the only goal of the game as Boreham Wood ended their iffy spell with a 1-0 win over Weymouth.

The games between Chesterfie[b]ld and King’s Lynn and also FC Halifax and Hartlepool United were postponed.

Notts County vs Bromley and Wealdstone’s home game with Maidenhead United also fell foul of the elements.

After Wealdstone's game was called off, the club parted company with manager Dean Brennan.
