What Happened On Saturday In The National League?

By Sam Elliott

It was a day to remember for Chesterfield and Bromley as they won a coveted place in the National League play-offs.

But it was heartbreak for Wrexham, FC Halifax and Eastleigh who all missed out.

Bromley fans won’t forget today in a hurry, they beat Notts County 1-0 thanks to Ben Williamson’s goal.

They needed favours - and Dagenham helped, a 1-1 draw with Wrexham wasn’t enough for Dean Keates team in the live BT Sport game.

Chesterfield knew if they won at FC Halifax Town then they didn’t need to rely on other results.

They feared the worst after being pegged back and striker Danny Rowe limped off.

But super sub Nathan Tyson hit the winner in the 2-1 success and manager James Rowe said: “It is a wonderful achievement.”

It was agony for Eastleigh - they went down 2-0 at Solihull Moors and miss out on the play-offs.

Jimmy Ball and Joe Sbarra got the goals as the Spitfires fell just short.

Stockport County end the season in third, John Rooney got the winner as they returned from Yeovil Town with a 1-0 win.

Hartlepool United face the Eliminators despite an excellent 4-0 win over Weymouth.

Ryan Johnson opened the scoring before Rhys Oates doubled up. Mark Shelton and Gavan Holohan added the gloss.

Champions Sutton United didn’t end the season in style, losing 2-0 at Barnet, but that didn’t stop the south west Londoners’ party.

There were some goalscoring farewells, too.

King’s Lynn Town and Aldershot Town played out the game of the day - 4-4 it ended, Michael Gash saying goodbye with a goal.

So did Ben Gerring - he got on the scoresheet by Woking went down 4-2 to Wealdstone, who were inspired by Ryan Gondoh’s double.

Maidenhead United love life on the road and a thumping 4-1 with at Boreham Wood didn’t tell half the story.

Sub goalkeeper Rhys Lovett was needed out pitch and he came on and scored in the final day romp.

Second place Torquay United ended the regular season with a 0-0 draw at Altrincham.
