What Happened On Saturday Across The National League

By Sam Elliott

York City have given leaders Barnet something to think about on a crucial day in the National League.

The Bees’ lead is cut to six points after they were pegged back at home to rivals Wealdstone, Harrison Sohna made it 1-1.

Then, a few hours later, York ripped apart Aldershot Town 7-2. Ollie Pearce is now the top scorer in the top five tiers of English football after his hat-trick, with Lewis Richardson scoring two.

There were some big results in the battle to stay in the division - and some play-offs hopes were hit.

Maidenhead United won 2-0 at FC Halifax Town to give them hope. Shawn McCoulsky again a scoring hero for Alan Devonshire.

Boston United are now five points outside the drop-zone after Frankie Maguire’s 26th minute winner at home to Altrincham dented the Robins’ top seven hopes.

Solihull Moors could be safe now after they stunned Southend United. Elliott Thorpe got the only goal against the promotion hunters.

AFC Fylde now need a miracle. Dale Gorman all-but confirmed safety for Woking.

Dagenham & Redbridge have work to do if they want to stay up, despite Harry Phipps’ late leveller at home to Hartlepool United.

Gateshead moved up to fifth with a 3-2 win at fellow promotion chasers Forest Green Rovers.

A first half double from Jovan Malcolm put the Heed in complete control before Liam Humbles rubbed salt into the wounds. Rovers rallied late on but couldn’t find an equaliser.

Off-colour Oldham Athletic are not guaranteed a play-off spot, they lost again this time at Yeovil Town.

Ebbsfleet United have had a season to forget but they recorded their best result on Saturday. A 4-1 win over Sutton United provided a rare high, Aaron Cosgrave helped himself to two goals.

Elsewhere Dan Creaney hit the net again as Tamworth beat Braintree 4-2 and Devante Rodney scored twice again as Rochdale rolled over Eastleigh 4-0.

The top three all won in the National League North to leave it as you were.

Scunthorpe United were too strong for Spennymoor Town as Ashley Hemmings’ latest hat-trick earned Kidderminster Harriers a 3-0 win over Curzon Ashton.

Brackley Town came from behind to win - Miracle Okafor sunk already down Warrington Town.

Rushall Olympic join the Yellows in saying goodbye, Luke Ingram relegating them and giving Needham Market a stay of execution.

Connor Woods’ winner helped Chester defeat Darlington as Gold Omotayo scored twice to hand King’s Lynn three points at Farsley Celtic.

Elsewhere there were wins for play-off chasing Hereford and Buxton while Alfreton defeated Peterborough Sports.

Truro City navigated a tricky away day as they stay top of the National League South.

The Tinners triumphed 3-1 at Hornchurch, Jaze Kabia struck a sensational hat-trick to keep their noses in front.

Worthing went one better and hit four against Chippenham, Temi Babalola scored two and so did Mo Faal.

Torquay United keep up the pressure, Cody Cooke scored again as the Gulls beat Slough Town 2-0 as Eastbourne left St Albans with a crucial 1-0 win.

Dorking Wanderers did drop points - a 2-2 draw at Bath City leaves them fifth and four points off the pace with three games to go.

Welling United are all-but down after a 5-0 loss at Hampton. Harry Gardiner scored a hat-trick.

Enfield are as good as safe after winning at Chelmsford City as Boreham Wood, Chesham and Aveley all enjoyed three-point afternoons.
