What Happened On Saturday Across The National League?

By Sam Elliott

A huge title twist, a promotion and a relegation - it was quite a National League afternoon.

Wrexham have closed the gap on Stockport County to just a point after a dramatic day of action.

The leaders went down 2-1 to a Jamal Fyfield-inspired Boreham Wood, the defender helping his old club out as he scored to make it three defeats in four for the table toppers.

Wrexham had earlier upped the heat with a 1-0 victory over Southend United, Ollie Palmer again scoring the all-important winner ahead of Monday’s games before the two title chasers meet next weekend.

King’s Lynn Town were relegated after they could only draw 3-3 with Eastleigh.

That’s because Aldershot stunned Notts County 3-1 to make absolutely sure of survival - Sinclair Armstrong made it safe.

That result gave hope to Dagenham who are still not giving up on the top seven and a 2-1 win at Wealdstone kept them in the hunt.

Chesterfield suddenly have work to do to secure their top seven place.

They went down 4-2 at Bromley, a first half double from Ali Al Hamada left the Spireites in seventh.

Solihull Moors are pretty much there and they hit four goals at Weymouth, deadly Andrew Dallas confirming the win.

FC Halifax Town want a top three place and they are still so good at home - a 1-0 win over Yeovil Town was secured by Zachary Dearnley.

Luke Waterfall scored at both ends as Grimsby Town came back from 2-0 down to level late against Barnet.

Josh Hancock scored the winner as Altrincham won 1-0 at Dover Athletic.

Joe Lewis nabbed a 90th minute equaliser as Torquay United and Maidenhead United drew 1-1.

Maidstone United are the National League South champions as they dispatched Chelmsford City.

Their 3-1 win was enough after title rivals Dorking fell to a 1-0 defeat at a Shaun Jeffers-inspired St Albans City.

The Stones are up after goals from Jack Barham, Hady Ghandour and Roarie Deacon in front of thrilled 3,774 fans.

Havant & Waterlooville look like they are flying towards the play-offs - a 3-0 win at Hampton was earned with the aid of a James Roberts double.

Both the teams down the bottom won.

Billericay stunned Eastbourne Borough 2-1, Anthony Jeffery and Dylan Gavin got the goals.

Welling United are alive and kicking too - they left Hungerford Town with a dramatic 2-1 win. Alfie Matthews hit a 90th minute winner.

Marcus Dinanga scored two of Dartford’s six goals as they swatted aside Slough Town.

In the National League North, it’s surely Gateshead’s title to lose now.

They are edging ever closer after Danny Ward, Cedwyn Scott and Owen Bailey found the net in a 3-1 win against Southport.

One more win will confirm it after second place Brackley Town lost to a stunning JJ O’Donnell goal for Blyth Spartans.

Alfreton and Boston United both dropped two points as they hunt down a play-off spot.

York City didn’t - they won 2-0 at Farsley Celtic, Lenell John-Lewis again on target.

Ashley Hemmings’ double for Kidderminster Harriers pushed Guiseley further towards the drop but they still have time to turn it around.

Spennymoor Town still think they can make the top seven - Jordan Thewlis with the all important winner against Hereford.
