What Happened In The National League North On Saturday?

By Tom Scott

You can never rely on the British weather to pull through when you really want it to - but a handful of our sides still got the chance to flourish in the rain.

Only three games survived the downpour but we certainly wasn't short of action as the top two sides met.

The game of the day was arguably at Chester who entertained league leaders and unbeaten York City.

Dan Maguire hit the only goal of the game at the Deva Stadium as the Minstermen kept their '0' to move five points clear of their hosts.

It might have been dry at Brewery Field but it was raining goals for Spennymoor Town who completed a comprehensive rout of nine-man Gloucester City.

Shane Henry opened the scoring for the hosts before Glen Taylor, James Roberts, Jamie Chandler and Ryan Hall all notched - Vincent Harper responded for the Tigers.

Bradford (Park Avenue) have now conceded 41 goals so far this season after another heavy defeat to Southport.

Ryan Astles, Devarn Green and skipper David Morgan all registered for the Port who are up to fourth.

Saturday's National League North final scores:
Bradford (Park Avenue) 0-3 Southport
Chester 0-1 York City
Spennymoor Town 5-1 Gloucester City
