What Could Happen In The National League North?

By Sam Elliott

It’s judgment day in the Vanarama National League North - and we’ve worked things out so you don’t have to.

While the Step 2 titles were settled some time ago, don’t be fooled into thinking the other matters have been as straight forward.

The race for the play-offs and battle to remain in the divisions will go to the wire, and that means final day drama is guaranteed as supporters stay glued to their phones for updates from elsewhere with all games kicking off at 3pm.

Here’s what we know ahead of the National League North last day - it’s far from cut and dried.

There are two play-off positions still to be confirmed, and while Curzon Ashton are in the driving seat for one of them, Boston United’s grip on the other isn’t firm.

The Nash need only a point against long-since down Bishop’s Stortford to seal a spot, while the Pilgrims will play on past this weekend if they win at Hereford, who are still mathematically in with a shot but need more than a 20 goal swing.

If Boston, pictured, draw or lose at Edgar Street, South Shields will climb in providing they beat Southport in the North East. If both fail, then it opens the door for Spennymoor Town - they’re at home to already-safe King’s Lynn Town.

There’s a lot to keep an eye on at the other end, and it involves not only the race to escape the drop but the top three battle as well.

If Farsley Celtic lose at home to Buxton, they will be playing Northern Premier League football again next season. They will also be sunk if Blyth Spartans defeat Brackley Town - but the Saints are eying up the play-off advantage and a win means they avoid the Eliminators.

Rushall Olympic need a very bad day to go down and a point at home to Warrington Town is sure to keep them in the division for another season with even a loss unlikely to send them down virtue of their superior goal difference.
