Weston Players Tell Supporters They Are Hurting Too

Following the club’s first ever relegation, Weston-super-Mare goalkeeper Luke Purnell has promised fans improvement next year.

The Seagulls have been relegated for the first time since they were formed in 1887.

The fact the proud record has gone makes things worse for the players.

Purnell has told the Weston Mercury that the players are sorry for a season to forget in the National League South.

He said: “I’m frustrated as a player and I’m disappointed as a fan.

“It’s gutting, the lads in the changing room are gutted. There’s a lot of emotion, not a lot of us have been relegated before.

“I’ve never been relegated and I don’t know how you’re supposed to act. From the players, we apologise to the fans for the performances this year.

“They have not been good enough and there hasn’t been enough consistency. We appreciate that everyone has stuck with us this year, and hopefully we can put it right next year.”
