We're Play-Off Ready! It All Starts Tonight With Two Huge Games

By Sam Elliott

The play-offs kick-off tonight as the tension and drama really starts - so who’s heading for the semi-final?

The first Eliminators in the Vanarama National League North and South are hours away, before the weekend line-up is completed on Wednesday night.

Will it be Alfreton Town or Boston United making it through to Saturday’s shoot out - both teams go into the game full of confidence and desperate for their shot at promotion.

Boston of course have a rich history at a higher level but manager Billy Heath says the Reds have been building for years and are ready to step up. The bad news for the Pilgrims is that at home, Alfreton are outstanding.

They’ve not lost in front of their fans since November but they will be well aware they take on a team who love to score goals - and a side who have won their last two away games.

Kelsey Mooney and Jimmy Knowles have been on fire in the final few months and their backline is strong having not conceded in 325 minutes. The winner heads to Scunthorpe United.

Jerry Gill wants to celebrate his new Bath City contract with his first National League South promotion - but it’s the battlers of Braintree Town standing in their way tonight.

He's hoping to make it third time lucky in the play-offs while Town fell at this hurdle last year to Worthing.

The Romans head to Essex having finished just one place below the Iron, but eight points behind.

Braintree edged the Twerton Park meeting earlier this season but at Cressing Road it ended honours even and it’s sure to be another tight encounter with so much to play for.

Only two sides have dropped fewer home points than Braintree and two of Bath’s eight away wins came in the season’s final few weeks.

The winner of this evening’s match go to Chelmsford City on Saturday. The other Eliminator on Wednesday night sees Maidstone United and Aveley battle it out for the right to play Worthing this weekend.
