Vanarama's National League South Fan Preview: Oxford City

Supporter Mark Neal is put on the spot - but how does the Oxford regular see things panning out?

League sponsors Vanarama have been getting the fans’ perspective ahead of the new season - which kicks off this Saturday

The new season is nearly upon us - what have you Oxford fans got to look forward to and what will be different this season from last?
I think we will start off stronger. With a better first few months we will give ourselves a much better chance. We had a very mixed start last time, but I am feeling much more positive this time around.

What’s been the best bit of business done over the past few months?
Keeping hold of some of our key players and the spine of the team. Captain Joe Oastler is back for his third season. We have still got Eddie Jones, Reece Fleet, Zac McEachran too. All massive players.

Who will be the main team to keep an eye on in the National League South coming August 3?
I think that Havant & Waterlooville will be the one to watch considering all the signings they have made - and Paul Doswell at the helm, too.

Who are the other sides to watch out for and could be in the promotion mix?
Sides such as Chelmsford City and Bath City will be up near the top. They have been close last few seasons and have strengthened well this summer. Billericay too.

Who will cause a shock?
Hemel. They have spent a bit this summer by the looks of it so they could well be up there.

What ground are you most looking forward to visiting and why?
I enjoy visiting Bath City. I love Twerton Park, it’s a lovely classic ground with brilliant terraces.

And what game would you like to win more than any other?!
I do like beating Wealdstone. There seems to have been a few hostile matches between us in last few seasons. Beating big spending Billericay is also a good feeling.

What opposition player would you most like to see in your side - and what makes him so good?
There’s a number of players I hold in high regard at this level. Jordan Parkes was a record goalscorer at Hemel and has recently joined Billericay Town. Wealdstone’s Jonathan North is a great goalkeeper at this level, along with Laurie Walker who is now at Hampton on-loan from MK Dons.

Can you put your neck on the line and predict where your team will finish next season?
I have predicted us to be in the top ten, or around mid table. But who knows, we could sneak into the play-off mix!

Vanarama have recently launched the National League Club Reward scheme to help fans back their club’s budget. Every time a fan takes out a brand new van lease with Vanarama or a brand new car lease with Motorama their club will earn £100 and you will receive £30 cashback.
