Vanarama's National League North fan preview: Brackley Town

Saints super fan Guy Smith puts his neck on the line and discusses the new season.

League sponsors Vanarama have been getting the fans’ perspective ahead of the new season - which kicks off this Saturday

The new season is nearly upon us - what have the fans got to look forward to?
Another promotion chasing season, hopefully a long FA Trophy run and a lot of drinking outside after our bar burnt down.

It’s been play-off heartbreak for two seasons in a row now. What do you need to do this season to ensure it doesn’t happen again?
A good start! Last season it took us a while to get going after losing two key players Aaron Williams and Alex Gudger in pre-season.

Kevin Wilkin has added some experience campaigners in Thierry Audel, Kelvin Langmead and Dan Holman. How impressed have you been with the club’s business this summer?
We already have the best centre-back in the league in Gaz Dean and the addition of Kelvin [Langmead] and Thierry [Audel] should help us remain solid in defence. However, as Kevin himself has said on numerous occasions, we have to be more clinical in front of goal. Dan Holman has a fine pedigree and we will be looking to him to bang in a few goals.

Which signing has impressed you the most this summer?
It could well be the signing of Tendai Daire from Lutterworth. Judging by his performances in the friendlies, he's quick and nimble with an eye for goal.

What’s changed since the curtain came down on last season?
Probably the formation, as it looks like we will go with 3-5-2 compared to last season's 4-4-1-1.

If you had to warn every opposition fan about someone, who would it be?
Luke Fairlamb. He has pace to burn. If he can become more accurate with his crossing, he will be a real threat to the opposition.

Who are your tips for promotion?
It will be the usual suspects; Spennymoor, Telford and Altrincham plus York and Chester. Kidderminster are the dark horses and must surely do better than last season with the squad they have. Darlington will be much improved under Alun Armstrong too.

Which away ground are you looking forward to visiting?
Guiseley because it has a nice bar overlooking a cricket pitch and freedom of movement around the ground.

Who are you determined to beat this year?
Oxford City away because they are based in Oxfordshire. Northamptonshire trumps Oxfordshire!

Name one player from another team you wish you had signed.
Aaron Williams. He was brilliant for us in our FA Trophy winning season. He always hit the target and scored a ton of goals.

Where in the league will Brackley be when the season ends?
Third again, unless we can score more goals.
